About the AuthorChristian Dior was born in France in 1905. After serving as an officer for the duration of World War II, he opened The House of Dior in 1946 and launched the “New Look” in 1947. Dior brought the center of the fashion world back to Paris, where he reigned over the fashion world until his death in 1957.

Christian Dior’s own nice little overview of the constituents of New Look fashion

This book isn’t genuinely very substantial; it’s basically an alphabetic collection of the outstanding couturier Christian Dior’s remarks on respective parts of fashion and style. On these terms, however, and for the reader who isn’t approaching the book expecting anything world-shaking, it’s a very nice little item and a good snapshot of “New Look” fashion ideas. Lots of great B&W photos and drawings, too! (I think it actually deserves 3 1/2 stars but Amazon’s star system doesn’t grant that kind of fine-tuning, more’s the pity.)

Not a lot of coverage

This is a nice little book – not elaborate or descriptive sufficient for an individual genuinely mesmerized in fashion. I did receive pleasure from the photographs. If you are looking for more indepth comprehensible statement of fashion terms and guidelines, I suggest A Guide to Elegance: For Every Woman Who Wants to Be Well and Properly Dressed on All Occasions. It is organized alphabetically, just like Mr. Dior’s book, but has more elaborated written descriptions of the items.

Simple rules that never go out of style!

Very interesting!
It is just what fashion employed to be in the 50′s.
Good book to learn what used to be fashion in the old times.
The best of it is that it teaches a lot of the rules that will never go out of style, because it teaches how to be elegant.
I likewise liked the way he approaches how to use colors and their meaning.
A++++++++++++++ book.
